OralB Triumph ElectricToothbrush Review

If you have never tried the Oral B Triumph Electric Toothbrush you are missing out on the "Dental Clean" feeling you get when using one.

Like all my reviews I review products I use or I tell you. I started out with a Sonic Care Electric Toothbrush. And I thought it was pretty good, but I kept doing my research and all the dental studies I read said the Oral B was a better electric toothbrush. So being that I am somewhat of a Health Enthusiast and Gadget Hound when the Sonic Care wore out I bought the Oral B Triumph Electric Toothbrush.

My Oral B toothbrush is Exactly the same as the model picture above.

There are a couple different brush heads available for the Triumph Model Toothbrushes. The first is the standard head which is called the "Pro White" and it works just fine. But I for the last 3 years I have been using their "Floss Action" brush heads. The floss action heads ad a small yellow rubber strip to help reach between your teeth. I like the floss action heads a bit better even though they cost a bit more.

Brush heads can be purchased individually or in 6 packs. Individually they can be pretty expensive, but if you watch Costco you can get the bulk packs once or twice a year on sale and it reduces the cost per brush head by $2-3.00 each.

Tip: Remove the brush head before placing your toothbrush in the charger. By doing this you will eliminate the water/toothpaste mix that drains down the handle from gravity and creates gunk in the bottom of the charger base.

The Oral B Triumph is pretty expensive - usually about $125 so shop around for your best deal. I bought mine at Costco. And brush heads are just over $30 for 6 or as high as $8 each individually.

So how long does a brush head last? That depends on how often you use them and for how long. If you look at the picture above you'll see the brush heads are blue and yellow... this color wears down as you use the toothbrush head and lets you know when it's time to replace. I like to replace mine about every 3 months. But they could last anywhere up to 6 months. I find that I can "feel" when the head is worn out and it's time to put on a new one. I usually go a little past when the color indicator says to change them.

So as expensive as the Triumph Electric Toothbrush is it's still cheaper than dental work! And you can't exactly regrow teeth! I love the way my mouth feels so much cleaner... you just can't appreciate that "dentists office" type of clean until you use one every day.

There are a couple of features that I don't use much, but you might want to. The first is a timer built in. Every 30 seconds as you brush your teeth the brush stops for a few milliseconds and reverses direction. This lets you know it's time to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth. So if you use it you brush the upper right, upper left, lower right, and lower left for exactly 30 seconds. By doing this you get the full 2 minute recommended brushing time.

The top button (see the picture above) on the handle is the power switch. The big blue one. Just below this is a smaller darker blue triangle button. Pressing the triangle button gives you access to different brush speeds.

There is an LCD indicators to let you know how much battery life is left. I just keep mine in the charger, but I have kept it out for several days at a time while traveling and have not had any issues with the toothbrush running out of power.

If you are on a budget you can also share this toothbrush. Sounds kind of icky doesn't it? But it's not. Because what you do is swap out brush heads. If you look again at the picture above you'll see a small yellow band at the base where the Triumph Brush head meets the base unit. The Triumph model comes with little colored rubber bands. So you can have one color and your partner can have another. They come in blue, green, yellow, and red.

So what is not to like? The only think I don't like is the charger itself. If you put your toothbrush in the charger right after you use it water will run down the toothbrush and into the bottom. This forms a gooey icky mess in the base unit. You can clean it, but it's annoying. I know I should follow my own tip above to remove the brush head, but I often get in a rush and forget.

So what I do is place my toothbrush on it's side on a wash cloth after using it. Then next time I come back into the bathroom I put it in the charger.

I am also not a fan of the bulky base electrical plug. It takes up too much space. I had to purchase a wall mount surge protector with 6 outlets so I had room to plug in all my electronic bathroom gadgets.

Conclusion: In my opinion the Oral B Triumph Electric Toothbrush is the very best Electric Toothbrush on the market. I've been using mine for more than 3 years now and not batter issues at all. Get one and enjoy for yourself the "Dentist Office" clean feeling. Once you start using it, you'll never go back to a manual toothbrush again!

Tip: At the time I purchased my Oral B Triumph it was the only model available at Costco. Recently I saw they are carrying a less expensive model in a 2 Pack with 4 Brush Heads for only $89.

Update: I read a review on Amazon where a user was complaining the small opening on the back of the brush head allows water and toothpaste to squirt out and he would get it on his shirts. I have not experienced this phenominum unless the brush is highly saturated with liquid in your mouth and you hold it at an angle that allows this to happen.
